About me

My name is Ron Shani. I was born in Tel-Aviv, Israel on 1963. Since the age of 13 I am involved with computers. This led me to study Computers and Electronics in a proffesional high-school. After receiving the title of electronic technician I served 4 years at the Israeli-Air-Force being responsible for teams doing computers and electronic work on fighter planes in the field of electronic warfare.

After completing 4 years of military service I went to the universtity where I studied Nuclear Engineering. The study allowed me to deepend my understanding of software engineering, related to simulation techniques in different engineering fields. I completed B.Sc. and in 1993 M.Sc. in Nuclear Engineering. I specialized in simulation techniques in nuclear engineering, in the field of nuclear fuel cycle and reactor core management.

My life led me to Vienna, Austria. There I served 6 years at the International Atomic Energy Agency IAEA (http://www.iaea.org) of the UN as a Nuclear Technology Specialist. This period involved all of my skills in software and nuclear disciplins. I was responsible for major international information systems, some I decided to publish on the Internet - as the Nuclear Fuel Cycle Information System NFCIS (http://www-nfcis.iaea.org).

As a result of some events, related to the major International Symposium 'Nuclear fuel Cycle and Reactor Strategies: Adjusting to New Realities' - I decided to start a new project to develop a fast, any-cycle long-term nuclear fuel cycle simulation system. The result was better than expected. My new computerized simulation model was selected to provide the base assumptions for all working groups, and the model-tool got its name - VISTA.

In mid-1999, first comparisons of earlier estimations with available real-world data were done - and the proof for the accuracy of the model was given. This was published in 'Nuclear Engineering International' issue September 1999. Like in many other corrupted organizations - the IAEA published in February 2007 an official publication (iaea-tecdoc-1535) - a document I wrote and submitted  in May 2001 - making sure that my name will be removed as the inventor, initiator and responsible scientific officer for this work.

Around 10/2004 I returned to Israel. For few years I was employed by the Israeli National Police as a civilian. There I managed the applicative computerized software access control system of the entire Police.

Since mid-2008 I am the owner and manager of SecNote Ltd, a new startup company dedicated to multilingual search systems.
